Abraham Lincoln who failed in business at the age of 21, was defeated in a legislative race at age 22, failed again in business at age 24, had his sweetheart die when he was age 26, had a nervous breakdown at age 27, lost a congressional race at age 34, lost a senatorial race at age 45, failed in an effort to become vice president at age 47, lost a senatorial race at age 49, and was elected president of the United States at age 52.

Thomas Edison

School teacher considered him as a stupid to learn anything. But his mother, a former school teacher, didn’t give up her belief on her son, taught him at home. Thomas Edison had only three months of formal schooling. In 1914, Thomas Edison, at age 67, lost his factory to fire. It had very little insurance. No longer a young man, Edison watched his lifetime effort go up in smoke and said, “There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burnt up. Thank God we can start a new”. In spite of disaster, three weeks later, he invented the phonograph.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a civil rights leader in South Africa. He fought against apartheid, a system where non-white citizens were segregated from whites and did not have equal rights. He was arrested in 1982 and spends almost twenty years in prison for his protests but became a symbol for his people, he won a Noble Peace Prize in 1993. He became South Africa’s first black President in 1994.

2. Avoid Procrastination

5. Avoid Being Perfectionist

Aim for accomplishments rather than perfection. It’s a good thing to have high standards and performance, when perfection becomes endless of making mistakes then it becomes a problem. It makes people unhappy since it’s impossible for them to achieve perfection. Moving towards the unattainable makes it difficult to get started. Perfectionism is able to keep us in a state of high anxiety. But you can identify your perfectionist tendencies and take realistic actions. Try to do your best when you striving towards a goal.
