A normal herb grinder is made out of 2 parts i.e. a top end and a bottom end. Each end has teeth that line up with the spaces on the other end, allowing the herb grinder to be rotated freely. When twisted, the grinder’s teeth work to tear the herb apart. Most herb grinders have their ends magnetized, so that they stick to each other, preventing the material from spilling out of the herb grinder. The longer the herb grinder is twisted, the finer the material will get.
An herb grinder works a little differently. Just like a normal herb grinder, the cannabis is placed into the pollinator whose two tops are twisted. This grinds the material into finer particles. The small particles then pass into little holes onto a filter screen where the THC resin or pollen, commonly called kief, falls though the screen and into the bottom of the pollinator.
Once the twisting has finished, marijuana used for smoking joints can be found in the top of the herb grinder and the kief or pollen used to make hashish can be found in the bottom. The resin/kief is usually collected from the pollinator after several uses and is pressed into hashish using a pollen press.
Many herbal shops sell an assortment of quality herb grinders and they have everything from electric herb grinders to pollen presses. I recommend Space Case Weed Grinder and Cali Crusher Herb Grinder which include a storage compartment and pollen screen. They are a perfect for all round pollinator for any smoke enthusiast, experienced or amateur.
As far as pollen presses go, I recommend the stainless steel pollen presses which are basic, compact and discrete. You have a choice of either blue, green, purple, silver or black. They are perfect for pressing the kief, the cannabis pollen, found in the bottom of pollinators. I purchased Space Case Weed Grinder as well as one of herbal smoke’s pollen presses. Once I tried each out, I rid myself of all my other pollen press, pollinator and herb grinder paraphernalia. I didn’t see the need for the rest.
If you are looking for just a simple herb grinder, take a look at the different shapes, sizes and herb grinder compositions. I find that most amateur smokers purchase the small 1-inch herb grinders in order to be more discrete. The electric herb grinders are also sold and work well for a large amount of buds that is tough and hard to grind.
